Campaign Planning/Management
The campaign marketplace has never been more competitive. Nonprofit leaders expect extraordinary outcomes and donors demand greater accountability while resources are stretched thinner every year.
Copley Raff's team of Senior Consultants and Associates bring a wealth of expertise, experience and resources to guide you in planning your campaign. We will help you build a persuasive case, recruit and train your campaign leaders, assist in solicitations, conduct donor research and create a detailed campaign blueprint tailored to your institution and your specific philanthropic resources.
Interim Executive Leadership
The Copley Raff consultants can and have served as the Vice President for Development or Director of Development and provide immediate leadership to maintain or create forward momentum in your development program. The CRI consultant may assume all the duties of the vacated position and bring an in-depth knowledge of best practices for raising funds within an institutional setting and for facilitating and guiding the leadership, staff and board members through the transitional time to achieve a new, higher level of fundraising activity.
Development Strategic Planning
Copley Raff, Inc. has developed strategic development plans for many of our clients. We oversee and direct the process and assist with the design and execution of the resulting plan. Our approach is tailored to meet the needs of organizations seeking to create comprehensive three- to five-year organizational strategic plans; or we may focus exclusively on an organization's development effort, either by laying the groundwork for a new initiative or identifying ways to strengthen an underperforming program. Following an assessment of your organization's strengths and weaknesses, we are able to help you articulate key objectives, plan for measurable outcomes, and develop operational and financial strategies.
BACK TO TOPDevelopment Assessments
A development assessment uncovers the untapped potential for growth of your organization's fundraising program, thus revealing its strengths, challenges, and opportunities. A Copley Raff development assessment is the first step to planning a more ambitious future for your philanthropy program with leadership and staff achieving consensus on the growth plan. The essential components of the audit include extensive data collection, careful scrutiny of all revenue sources, fundraising expenses, operating systems, staffing, and benchmarking to compare peer and competing organizations both local and nationally. Interviews with key volunteers and supporters confirm how others perceive your organization and gauge the potential for increasing support. The final assessment report analyzes the data and findings and presents recommendations for immediate action.

Direct Mail/ Marketing/Communications
Copley Raff is one of very few philanthropy consulting firms that provide direct mail/response services and strategy with the key objective of contributing to a robust major gift prospect “pipeline”. While CRI believes in the value of building a broad and reliable annual giving base, the true value of a direct response program is not in the gross and net revenue of the program (while important), rather it is in identifying annual giving donors who are capable of major and leadership giving. CRI then assists organizations in constructing the capability and systems to properly engage, cultivate, solicit and steward major and planned gift donors who were often found through the mail program.
CRI prides itself on providing our clients with the services of “senior” and accomplished development professionals, and in taking a team-think approach in providing thoughtful and comprehensive strategy toward the highest outcome.
Within the Direct Response realm, CRI distinguishes itself by offering a highly customized suite of services, from a “virtual full service” that takes care of all a client’s needs in this area – strategic, creative, analytical and production – to combinations or hybrids of these service requirements, delivered via retainer, daily or project bases. We are distinguished from most agencies in that we help establish an arms length production relationship directly between the client and a premier production service (often using Production Solutions, Inc. of Vienna, VA) or a client’s existing stable of vendors, and we help manage these relationships where needed as part of our turnkey “Virtual Full Service.”
Copley Raff and Checkoway Consulting are jointly committed to the premise that direct mail and direct marketing efforts are an indispensable element of a fully integrated development office and major gifts enterprise. Nelson Checkoway's award-winning expertise can be combined with the strategic development services of Copley Raff to provide an effective and a comprehensive array of services and talent to CRI clients to help ensure their success. Checkoway's creative work has won multiple industry awards including the Direct Mail Fundraisers Association Package of the Year and a number of prestigious MAXI awards from the Direct Marketing Association of Washington.Social and Digital Media
“Social media.” We’ve all heard of it. But how should nonprofits leverage the reach and impact of these new tools?
Although nothing in fundraising will ever surpass the effectiveness of face to face relationships, a carefully constructed, ongoing social and digital media campaign can significantly augment your development, stewardship, visibility, and thought leadership initiatives. Through this comprehensive program, Copley Raff’s consultants will introduce your organization – its staff, executives and volunteer leaders – to the basics of social media. Then working with your key personnel, our experts will create a comprehensive strategy; design and produce your organization’s blog; teach the basics on content and storytelling; establish and populate photo and video repositories; train on core social media outlets; and, create a realistic and actionable editorial calendar and promotional strategy right-sized for your organization.
This program is designed to enable organizations to execute social media programs entirely in house if desired.
