Barry is a nationally-recognized public relations executive specializing in public relations/marketing communications for nonprofit organizations. He has consulted with more than 100 hospitals, universities, foundations, arts groups, and social service agencies, and has conducted over 20 communications audits.

Barry has won more than 25 regional and national public relations awards, primarily in the areas of media relations and crisis communications.  He has run a public relations agency for 25 years, served as director of public affairs for the National Endowment for the Humanities, Brandeis University, the University of California at Santa Barbara, and Wheelock College, and was the senior copywriter for a major direct mail firm.

He also worked as a newspaper editor and reporter, as well as a   press secretary for U.S presidential, senatorial, and mayoralty campaigns. Barry has written extensively on public relations, special events and collaborations. He is an elected fellow of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), has received lifetime achievement awards from PRSA (Boston Chapter) and the Publicity Club of New England, and is a former adjunct professor of public relations at Boston University.
