Baptist Health Foundation serves as the philanthropic arm of Baptist Health South Florida, the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in South Florida. SITUATION

Health system and foundation leadership wanted to understand the fundraising potential of the foundation and how to achieve higher levels of performance.


STRATEGIC APPROACH

BHSF corporate and foundation leadership requested Copley Raff’s counsel to:
• Determine the philanthropic capacity and cultural orientation of residents, businesses and foundations in BHSF market areas
• Identify factors in the philanthropic success of selected nationally prominent healthcare organizations
• Identify factors in the philanthropic success of benchmark health systems
• Identify current and future BHSF programs, services, and initiatives that could provide inspiration and purpose for building rapid success and growth in the Baptist Health Foundation advancement program
• Develop broad-stroke strategies and aspirational growth objectives for BHF
• Analyze the Foundation’s personnel capabilities, structure, and how they align with the Foundation’s new objectives
• Recommend how to align the Foundation’s goals with BHSF’s strategic goals


MOVING THE NEEDLE

• Foundation staff and volunteer leadership executed CRI recommendations
• Foundation staff and board were completely reorganized and realigned
• Foundation board and health system leaders elevated their fundraising sites, objectives and pursuits
• Philanthropic revenue increased 84% (4-year rolling average from $14 million) over the four fiscal years following CRI’s engagement to raising $30.1 million in FY 2017
